The Deal Center was excited to participate in the annual GCSU Gives Day held on August 19th. First year students were invited to learn more about non-profit organizations and service opportunities available in the community, including the Deal Center. Our favorite mascot, Thunder, made a guest appearance with President Cox, who read a special book to the audience from the main stage. We hope everyone who attended had as great a time as we did! 

The staff of the Deal Center and Georgia College & State University welcomed The International Dyslexia Association of Georgia (IDA-GA) to the GCSU campus on August 26! The IDA’s Dimensions of Dyslexia: Keys to Structured Literacy 30th anniversary conference featured three keynote speakers, 16 breakout sessions, and an incredible turnout of more than 70 public school teachers and administrators. We were thrilled to participate and enjoyed meeting attendees and presenters while staffing our booth exhibition at the event. We look forward to continuing our support of IDA at next year’s conference! 

We wrapped up our 2023 Virtual Learning Series: Emergent Literacy, A Virtual Professional Development Series for Early Childhood Educators with Module 4, Session 12 on October 10. Many thanks to Dr. Marcia Kosanovich and Amy Reddick for their collaboration, vast professional knowledge, and dedication to this series! In total, more than 700 educators received 315 continuing education units and 419 GaPDS credits, equipping today’s teachers with evidence-based practices for a better tomorrow! Deal Center Executive Director Dr. Lindee Morgan was pleased to speak to the Rotary Club of Milledgeville on September 7th and to the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce on September 20th. Dr. Morgan delivered messages about the importance of language development and literacy before children enter the school system and the role that quality preschool education can play in children’s lives. She enjoyed meeting many local business and community leaders and looks forward to more opportunities to share information about literacy for all of Georgia’s children

The Deal Center request for applications for our Research Grant Initiative for Implementation Research to Improve Early Language and Literacy Outcomes is open! Awards of up to $50,000 will fund implementation research aimed at embedding evidence-based practices that foster early language and literacy. We are pleased to accept applications from University System of Georgia institutions and state agencies. The deadline for submissions is November 27, 2023, at 5pm. More information can be found here.
